It features a high flash point, low melting point, very low toxicity, minimal environmental impact, and excellent dissolving capacity. In addition, DMI offers outstanding chemical stability and demonstrates strong resistance to strong acids, strong alkalis, water, light, and oxygen.

1,3-Dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone (DMI) is widely employed as a solvent in various organic synthesis reactions and chemical transformations. It is also used in research involving the photochemical generation of stable, functionalized hydrogenated silane biradical transition-metal complexes from arylsilanes. As a polar aprotic solvent with excellent chemical stability, DMI is frequently considered an alternative to the carcinogenic solvent HMPA.
