Ambroxane CAS#6790-58-5
Ambroxan is one of the characteristic aromatic substances found within natural ambergris and can be detected in ambergris tincture extracts. It delivers a full‑bodied, powerful ambergris scent enhanced by delicate woody undertones. Thanks to its remarkable fixative performance, Ambroxan enjoys broad application in perfumery: it imparts the signature ambergris accord and functions as a viable substitute for genuine natural ambergris.
Obtained from whale secretions and occasionally recovered along shorelines, natural ambergris has fallen out of perfume‑making practice due to ethical considerations. First discovered in 1949, Ambroxan has grown into an indispensable raw material for the fragrance sector. In perfumery vocabulary, the term “ambergris note” can also describe amber‑themed fragrances built around cistus essential oil and cistus absolute as base notes.
As a core material for constructing ambergris‑type fragrance accords, Ambroxan ranks among the most prevalent biodegradable ambergris‑scented molecules used across the perfume industry.

Product Application of Ambroxane CAS#6790-58-5
Ambroxane features a unique, full-bodied ambergris fragrance, which makes it a prized raw material for luxury perfumes and cosmetic formulations. It shows low skin irritation and has not triggered allergic responses in animal tests, so it is safe for scenting skin care, hair care and textile products. It is widely incorporated as a perfume component and fixative in soaps, talcum powders, creams and shampoos, with a typical addition level of 0.1%–0.2%.
Freshly distilled pure Ambroxane has a relatively faint odour. Once diluted to 10% in ethanol and aged in air for some time, its aroma evolves into a gentler, mellower and more well-rounded accord. Its outstanding fixing power greatly boosts fragrance diffusion and substantivity, enriching the complete scent profile from top notes down to the base.
Ambergris-type aroma additives are essential for creating seasoned tobacco notes, and Ambroxane stands out among them. It greatly elevates the smoke flavour of blended cigarettes and is widely applied in flue-cured tobacco as well as fine fragrance production.
As a tobacco flavourant, Ambroxane blends seamlessly with the inherent tobacco aroma. It helps cover off-notes and unwanted impurities. Even at very low dosages, it improves the overall sensory quality of tobacco. It is especially ideal for blended cigarettes and accentuates the characteristic flavour of Oriental tobacco.
