Metatitanic acid CAS#12026-28-7
Metatitanic acid is a key intermediate generated in the sulfuric‑acid route for titanium dioxide production. In this route, ilmenite reacts with sulfuric acid to form titanyl sulfate. The resultant solution is then purified, cooled to separate ferrous sulfate, filtered under pressure and concentrated. After that, titanyl sulfate undergoes hydrolysis to yield metatitanic acid.
It exists as a white powder. Except for the freshly precipitated fraction, metatitanic acid is insoluble in water, inorganic acids and alkalis.
