Methyl Formate CAS#107-31-3 Products Description

Methyl formate, an ester of formic acid, is a colorless, transparent, and highly volatile liquid at room temperature, characterized by a pleasant odor. It is soluble in water, alcohols, and ethers, and undergoes saponification in the presence of water or alkaline solutions. The compound is also susceptible to hydrolysis when exposed to moisture. Its vapor can form explosive mixtures with air at concentrations ranging from 6.0% to 20.0% (v/v). As a valuable intermediate in organic synthesis, methyl formate is extensively used in the manufacture of fragrances, solvents, organic chemicals, bactericides, and insecticides.
