Product Description of Phytomelin CAS No. 153-18-4
Rutin is a glycoside of the flavonol quercetin and belongs to the flavonoid family. It is a natural compound obtained from various plants and can be found in rue, tartary buckwheat, Sophora japonica flower buds, catalpa leaves, as well as tomato stems, leaves, and seed coats.
Dried buckwheat harvested shortly before flowering may contain approximately 3% rutin. Other plants, including jujube, hawthorn, ginkgo, goji berry, motherwort, bupleurum, self-heal, aloe, and Gynostemma pentaphyllum, also contain rutin. The flower buds and immature fruits of Sophora japonica, a leguminous plant, may contain more than 20% rutin, making them an important raw material for rutin extraction in the pharmaceutical industry in China.
Rutin can undergo hydrolysis under strongly acidic or alkaline conditions. Its color stability decreases in alkaline food systems, while it exhibits antioxidant properties. It can enhance the light stability of pigment preparations in ethanol and help prevent the gradual loss or alteration of fragrance. When combined with vitamin E, rutin may further enhance antioxidant performance.

Product Applications of Phytomelin CAS No. 153-18-4
- Food coloring agent (lemon yellow); antioxidant; nutritional supplement. It is primarily used in soft drinks, beverages, baked goods, processed meat products, seafood products, and other food applications.
- Vitamin preparations. Rutin may help reduce capillary permeability and fragility while supporting the maintenance and recovery of normal capillary elasticity. It has been used in products intended for conditions such as hypertensive cerebral hemorrhage, diabetic retinal bleeding, and hemorrhagic purpura. It is also utilized as a food antioxidant and coloring agent.
- It exhibits potential anti-inflammatory activity and vitamin P-like properties, helping support vascular resistance and reduce capillary permeability and fragility. It has also been studied for potential effects on fatty liver, with more pronounced effects reported when combined with glutathione. Additional research has investigated its antiviral activity and inhibitory effects on aldose reductase.
