Product Description

Chromium(III) fluoride (CAS 7788-97-8, CrF₃), also called chromic trifluoride, is a green crystalline inorganic salt supplied as anhydrous powder or trihydrate. It is a specialized chromium(III) source used as a mordant in textile dyeing, a fluorination/halogenation catalyst, and a corrosion-inhibiting pigment in anti-rust primers.
Key features:
  • Green crystalline solid, stable under normal conditions.

  • Available as anhydrous CrF₃ and trihydrate CrF₃·3H₂O to match process needs.

  • Good mordanting affinity for wool and polyamide fibers.

  • Active catalyst for fluorination and halogenation reactions.

  • Effective corrosion inhibitor in chromium-containing anti-rust paints.

  • Used in marble hardening, dye fixing and specialty chemical synthesis.

Product Application
Chromium(III) fluoride is a specialty chromium salt mainly used in textile dyeing, catalyst preparation, anti-corrosion coatings and stone treatment.
In textiles, it is used as a mordant for wool and polyamide dyeing, improving the fastness and depth of chrome-complex and acid dyes. It is also used in vigoureux printing and wool anti-moth finishing.
In catalysts and fluorochemistry, it serves as a catalyst or catalyst precursor for halogenation and fluorination reactions, and as a chromium source for preparing other chromium(III) compounds and chromium-based catalysts.
In coatings and metal treatment, it is incorporated into anti-rust primers and corrosion-inhibiting paints where its low solubility and chromium(III) passivation film give long-term protection to steel.
In stone, paper and other specialties, it is used as a hardening and coloring agent for marble, in paper-coating formulations, and as a laboratory reagent.
