Ethylamine-borontrifluoride CAS#75-23-0
Boron trifluoride‑ethylamine complex is a latent curing agent formulated for epoxy resin systems. Tight coordination between boron trifluoride and ethylamine suppresses reactivity at room temperature. When heated, the complex breaks down and releases boron trifluoride to trigger the curing reaction of epoxy resins.
It is generally incorporated at around 1 wt% based on the weight of epoxy resin. This material is highly hygroscopic, so weighing operations should be carried out quickly to reduce moisture uptake. It is a white to pale yellow or light orange solid, with a melting point of 85–89 °C and a boiling point of 148 °C at 1 mmHg as documented in literature.
