Manganese sulfate CAS#7785-87-7

Manganese sulfate appears as light‑pink monoclinic fine crystals at room temperature. It is easily soluble in water and insoluble in ethanol. It begins to lose crystal water when heated above 200°C, loses most crystal water at approximately 280°C, forms molten salt at 700°C, and starts decomposing at 850°C, releasing sulfur trioxide, sulfur dioxide or oxygen.

Manganese belongs to Group VII of the periodic table. Elemental manganese does not exist freely in nature and mostly occurs in the form of compounds within animals and plants. Since Orent, Kemmer and other researchers confirmed manganese as an essential trace element for animals in 1940, numerous studies have proven its critical nutritional function in animal organisms. It serves as a key constituent of kinases, proline peptidases and pyruvate carboxylase. Manganese ions can activate various enzymes, acting as activators for multiple hydrolases, dephosphorylases, phosphorylases and ribozymes. Manganese helps boost growth, strengthen immunity and improve animal reproductive performance.

Manganese sulfate is an important trace‑element fertilizer. It can be applied as basal fertilizer, for seed soaking, seed dressing, topdressing and foliar spraying to stimulate crop growth and raise yields. In livestock and feed industries, it works as a feed additive to support healthy growth and fattening of poultry and livestock. It is also applied as a drier for paint and ink manufacturing, raw material for producing other manganese salts, catalyst for fatty‑acid synthesis. Besides, it finds usage in papermaking, ceramics, textile printing‑dyeing, ore flotation, and serves as feedstock for electrolytic manganese production.
