SMAS is a reactive sulfonate functional comonomer with polymerizable vinyl group and hydrophilic sulfonate group. It is white crystalline powder, highly soluble in water. When copolymerized into polymers, the sulfonate group brings excellent hydrophilicity, salt tolerance and thermal stability. It is widely used to modify water-soluble polymers for construction, textile, water treatment and oilfield chemicals.

1. Polycarboxylate superplasticizer for concrete admixture Act as comonomer & chain transfer agent, introduce sulfonate groups to improve dispersion and slump retention, achieve high water reduction for ready-mix concrete and precast concrete.
2. Third monomer for acrylic fiber (PAN fiber) Improve dye uptake, color fastness and brightness of acrylic fiber; enhance heat resistance, elasticity and spinnability.
3. Water treatment polymers & modified PAM Copolymerize with acrylamide / acrylic acid to produce salt-resistant flocculants and scale inhibitors for circulating water and wastewater treatment.
4. Oilfield chemicals Synthesize high temperature & salt resistant polymer for EOR, fluid loss additive and dispersant for drilling fluid.
5. Coatings & special polymers Raw material for waterborne acrylic resin, pigment dispersant, super absorbent polymer and other specialty polymers.
