Products Description
Cetostearyl Alcohol, also known as Cetyl Stearyl Alcohol (CAS#8005‑44‑5), is a mixed C16‑C18 fatty alcohol composed of cetyl alcohol and stearyl alcohol.
It exists in the form of white granules, flakes or blocks. It has a slight greasy‑waxy smell and turns into transparent oily liquid after melting. This product is easily soluble in ethanol and oils, while practically insoluble in water.

Product Application
Preparation method: Coconut oil undergoes continuous hydrogenation with a copper‑chromium catalyst to yield C8‑C18 mixed fatty alcohols. The glycerin contained in coconut oil is converted into isopropanol and water during hydrogenation.
The crude mixed fatty alcohol is first subjected to atmospheric distillation to remove water and isopropanol, followed by vacuum distillation for fractionation. Fractions including C8‑C10 alcohol, C12‑C14 alcohol and C16‑C18 alcohol (cetostearyl alcohol) are separated accordingly.
Safety data: MSDS is available for Cetostearyl Alcohol. We also provide information on its upstream and downstream related products.
