Product Description

Potassium titanate (CAS 12030-97-6) is a family of inorganic titanate compounds supplied as white whiskers, flakes or fine powder, commonly represented by K₂Ti₄O₉, K₂Ti₆O₁₃ and K₂Ti₈O₁₇. It is a high-performance reinforcing fiber and functional filler widely used as an asbestos substitute in friction materials, and as a strength and wear improver in plastics, rubber and coatings.
Key features:
  • High tensile strength and high modulus whiskers with high aspect ratio.

  • Excellent thermal stability, resistant to high temperatures and thermal cycling.

  • Stable friction coefficient and low wear in brake and clutch applications.

  • Asbestos-free and safer to handle than traditional fibrous fillers.

  • Good chemical resistance and electrical insulation properties.

  • Available in whisker, flake and powder forms to match different processes.

  • K₂Ti₄O₉ grade also used for heavy-metal ion adsorption in wastewater treatment.

Product Application

Potassium titanate is a versatile inorganic reinforcing material whose main demand comes from friction materials, polymer reinforcement and functional coatings.
In automotive brake and clutch friction materials, potassium titanate whiskers (especially K₂Ti₆O₁₃ and K₂Ti₈O₁₇) are the standard asbestos-free reinforcement in non-asbestos organic (NAO) brake pads, brake linings and clutch facings. They provide a stable coefficient of friction across a wide temperature range, reduce brake noise, improve wear resistance and extend service life.
In plastics, rubber and light metals, it is used as a reinforcing filler to raise mechanical strength, heat deflection temperature and dimensional stability, and to reduce wear and friction in engineering parts, gears and bearings.
In coatings and specialty materials, it is used in heat-resistant and anti-corrosion paints, conductive/anti-static compounds, diesel engine filters and refractory products. Potassium tetratitanate (K₂Ti₄O₉) is also used for selective adsorption and ion-exchange removal of heavy metal ions in industrial wastewater.
