Product Description of UROLENE BLUE CAS#61-73-4

Methylene blue (MB) is a reducing agent that dissolves readily in water and can easily penetrate cell membranes. It generally has a favorable safety profile when used appropriately and is an approved clinical medication. Since its introduction to biological research in the 19th century, methylene blue has been widely applied as a dye in neuroanatomy and bacteriology. In biochemical studies, it functions as an indicator of oxidation-reduction reactions. As an antidote, methylene blue is used to treat methemoglobinemia caused by nitrites and certain other toxic substances. It is also used in the management of cyanide poisoning and ifosfamide-induced encephalopathy.

Product Applications of UROLENE BLUE CAS#61-73-4

Methylene blue is a dye whose oxidized form appears blue, while its reduced form is colorless. When used to stain living yeast cells, their metabolic activity provides strong reducing power, converting methylene blue from its blue oxidized state into a colorless reduced form. Cells with low metabolic activity or dead cells have little or no reducing capacity, so they remain stained blue or light blue. This method can therefore be used not only to observe yeast cell morphology but also to distinguish viable yeast cells from dead ones.

It is suitable for dyeing linen, silk fabrics, and paper, as well as coloring bamboo and wood. It is also applied in the production of inks and lakes and in biological and bacteriological tissue staining. By mixing it with Basic Violet 5BN and yellow dextrin in a ratio of 78:13:9, Basic Royal Blue can be produced.
