Sodium bicarbonate, with the molecular formula NaHCO₃, is an inorganic compound, white powder or fine crystal, odorless, salty, easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, and the aqueous solution is slightly alkaline. It is easy to decompose when heated, and slowly decomposes in humid air to produce carbon dioxide. It begins to decompose at about 50°C and completely decomposes when heated to 270°C. When encountering acid, it decomposes strongly and produces carbon dioxide.
