Products Description of Nickel Carbonate CAS#3333-67-3
Nickel carbonate is a light green crystalline compound at room temperature. It is almost insoluble in water, but its solubility increases in CO₂-containing water compared with pure water. It is soluble in ammonia water and dilute acids, while being insoluble in cold concentrated hydrochloric acid and nitric acid. When strongly heated in air, nickel carbonate decomposes to form nickel oxides. It can also react with ammonium chloride solution to release carbon dioxide (CO₂) and ammonia (NH₃), producing a nickel(II) chloride solution.
Nickel carbonate is an important nickel-containing compound that exists in several forms, including normal nickel carbonate, basic nickel carbonate, and acidic nickel carbonate. It is generally prepared through the reaction of nickel nitrate with an aqueous soda ash solution. Due to differences in preparation methods, pure nickel carbonate and acidic nickel carbonate are rarely found, while basic nickel carbonate is the primary commercial form
With increasing environmental awareness, traditional nickel nitrate catalysts have faced concerns due to nitrogen oxide emissions. In contrast, basic nickel carbonate contains no nitrate ions and does not generate nitrogen oxide pollution, making it a more environmentally friendly catalyst material for oil processing. It is expected to gradually replace conventional nickel nitrate catalysts and has growing market demand.
