Product Description
2‑Bromo‑2‑nitro‑1,3‑propanediol, commonly known as Bronopol, CAS#52‑51‑7, appears as white to off‑white crystalline powder. It is an efficient water‑soluble bromonitroalcohol biocide with broad‑spectrum antimicrobial performance. It dissolves readily in water, ethanol and ethyl acetate, while only slightly soluble in non‑polar organic solvents. Classified as UN3241, Class 4.1 flammable solid, PG III, HS code 29055900.
Bronopol inhibits microorganisms by interfering with key thiol‑containing enzymes in microbial metabolism, delivering strong bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects, especially against Gram‑negative bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It maintains good stability within pH 4–8, and its stability declines obviously under strong alkaline conditions and high temperature. It is widely adopted as a low‑dosage preservative for various water‑based formulations. It is broadly applied in cosmetics, personal care products, metalworking fluids, latex, adhesives, circulating water systems and pharmaceutical aqueous preparations.

Product Application
Bropol delivers outstanding bactericidal efficacy against a wide spectrum of plant pathogenic bacteria, with its primary application as a seed treatment agent.
Leveraging its broad-spectrum antibacterial properties, it has been utilized as a disinfectant in the pharmaceutical industry since the 1960s. As the cosmetics industry has undergone rapid development, its excellent water solubility and potent antimicrobial activity have also made it a widely favored cosmetic preservative.
In recent years, Bropol has seen its application scope keep expanding, gaining increasing adoption in sectors including feed, coatings, fur preservation, air conditioning circulating water treatment, sterilization of oilfield injection water, and disinfection of aircraft, vehicles and ships, which has driven a continuous rise in its market demand.
