Product Description of 2-Propenamide, N-(1,1-dimethyl-3-oxobutyl) CAS#2873-97-4
Diacetone acrylamide contains two functional groups: an N-substituted amide group and a ketone group. It readily copolymerizes with various ethylenically unsaturated monomers, incorporating ketocarbonyl groups into polymer structures. Taking advantage of the reactivity of these ketocarbonyl groups, the resulting polymers can participate in crosslinking and grafting reactions. This makes diacetone acrylamide useful in the production of various adhesives, thickeners, paper strengthening agents, and crosslinking agents. It is widely applied in coatings, adhesives, household chemicals, epoxy resin curing systems, photosensitive resin additives, textile auxiliaries, and medical and healthcare-related products.

Product Applications of 2-Propenamide, N-(1,1-dimethyl-3-oxobutyl) CAS#2873-97-4
Diacetone acrylamide is an important vinyl monomer. Its homopolymer is water-insoluble but exhibits unique moisture-responsive properties. It can absorb water equivalent to approximately 20–25% of its own weight and release the absorbed moisture when the surrounding relative humidity falls below 60%. The absorbed water acts as a plasticizer, giving the polymer distinctive properties that make it suitable for a wide range of applications.
(1) Humidity-Resistant Hair Styling Resins
In Japan, this monomer is used in hair styling resin formulations designed to resist moisture. These formulations help maintain hairstyles for extended periods and reduce deformation caused by rain or washing.
(2) Photosensitive Resins
Diacetone acrylamide can be incorporated into photosensitive resin formulations to provide several beneficial characteristics:
- Rapid photosensitivity and efficient exposure response.
- Easy removal of unexposed areas, allowing clear image formation.
- Good mechanical strength, solvent resistance, and water resistance in the resulting image or pattern.
In addition, it can be used as a crosslinking agent for unsaturated polyester resins and diallyl phthalate resins, as well as a curing agent for epoxy resins. Other potential applications include moisture-responsive materials, contact lenses, anti-fog glass coatings, marine hull coatings, pressure-sensitive adhesives, adhesive modifiers, nonwoven fabric binders, water-absorbent films, leather finishing agents and modifiers, paper strength enhancers, antistatic polymers, and printing inks.
